Aging policy

Items can stay in the vault for 180 days. This page explains exactly what happens as that runs down, and what your options are. You agree to this every time you send a box in.

The short version
Trade it, extend it, or take it home. If none of those happen by the deadline, the item is donated or disposed of — and you won't be surprised by it, because we warn you twice.

The clock

An item's clock starts the moment it's approved and shelved — not when you mail it. You get 180 days.

Trading an item restarts its clock completely. A new owner gets a full fresh term, every time. An item that keeps changing hands never ages out. We store things so they can move; if something is moving, we're happy to keep holding it.

Your warnings

You'll hear from us twice before anything happens — in the app, on the item, and in your notifications:

  • 30 days out — a heads-up, with the item linked so you can act on it.
  • 7 days out — final notice, with your three options spelled out.

Your options at the limit

  1. Trade it. Free, and it resets the clock for the next owner. Listing it for a fixed price or accepting a lopsided offer both count.
  2. Ship it home. $8.99 per box, however many items you pull at once.
  3. Extend storage. $1.99 per item per month, charged to your wallet.

If you do nothing

After the final warning passes with no action, the item is either donated to a local charity or responsibly disposed of, depending on its condition. You'll get a notification telling you which.

We do this because the alternative is unbounded free storage, which would mean higher fees for everyone actually trading.

Rejected items

Items we can't accept at intake are held for 14 days. You can pay return shipping within that window; after it, the same donation or disposal applies.

Your items and their remaining time are always visible in My stuff.
